Instagram

I typed in Library and Instagram and came up with a few links to libraries who are using this service.
The first library I looked up was web.stagram.com/n/queenslibrary , which I'm not sure is exactly like instagram since it says webstagram but I felt it was the same concept. It looks like they use it to post events and solicit responses from patrons from posing questions asking their opinion. This si very similar to how I use Facebook for the Bison Public Library.

The second library used it a little more similarly to what we saw in class. It had some very "artsy" pictures that were either very close up or just interesting to look at. One thing I liked was a picture of a mad libs page for A Little Women's excerpt, people commented their suggestions and later they posted a picture of the completed story. How fun! Their link is instagram.com/nypl.

The third library actually used instagram to have people submit photos of their library to enter a contest. It was a newly opened library and not only was it a great way to get people in to take photos for publicity but also gave a fresh perspective of how different eyes are drawn to different things. This link was news.lib.ncsu.edu/tag/instagram.

Again very interesting, and while I would like to use all of these social media ideas, it is important for a single staffed library to focus on 1 or 2 and do them well as opposed to doing too many and not keeping up with the maintenance.
